Los Gatos, California – August 31, 2009 – In recognition of the important contributions of two industry trailblazers, the New Ways of Working Network (www.NewWOW.net) has awarded its first Fellows of the New Ways of Working for the year 2009-2010. This year the honor is shared by Chris Hood, Program Manager of the HP Workplace and John M. H. Edwards, founder of the TeleworkNetwork.
New Ways of Working Network (NewWOW), is an organization dedicated to examining the changing nature of work in a distributed world. Its new program is designed to recognize thought leaders who have made a significant contribution to understanding work-systems, such as alternative work practices, telework, and virtual, integrated, and sustainable workplaces.
Chris Hood has been a student of the workplace for over twenty years, stemming from early studies of tele-cottages in Scandinavia in the late eighties through to the current widespread presence of remote working and mobility across much of today’s global workforce. As an interested observer of the shifting nature of work, he has developed a wealth of hands-on knowledge as he has lead Hewlett Packard efforts to design integrated workplace solutions together in support of the shifting workplace paradigm, and has been very active in sharing his knowledge and experience with others. Chris is a registered Architect in the UK and now lives in Williamsburg, Virginia.
John M. H. Edwards, the Founder of the TeleworkNetwork, has spent almost two decades dedicated to the teleworking movement. Because of his knowledge of distributed, virtual and mobile work, he has been invited to be a member of the planning boards of numerous events and conferences. He researches the trends and impact of teleworking on employers, their employees, society, and the environment. Armed with his up-to-date research, he consults with both local and international corporations and governments. John has presented in the U.S. and abroad on a host of topics related to teleworking.
In return for the privileges of full membership within the NewWOW Network (including unlimited access to the resources of the member’s only website, free subscription to the weekly e-newsletter and participation in semi-annual symposiums), the Fellows will participate fully in the intellectual life of the Network. In addition, the Fellows may also contribute papers or occasional comments for posting on the web page.
“We’re delighted to welcome Chris and John to our Network,” said Jim Creighton co-founder of New Ways of Working Network. “They both have a wealth of experience, and we believe this will enrich the dialogue within the network.”
When accepting the honor, Chris Hood said, “The New Ways of Working Network has won great respect from many, including myself, for the depth and quality of the thinking and the material flowing from the group. I look forward to fully participating in the intellectual life of the Network.” John Edwards added, "I'm very excited to have the opportunity to help shape how we live our lives while trying to manage, between work and home, our perpetually shrinking available time. We are at only the beginning of momentous changes in our life- and work-styles--exciting times that I'm honored to be a part of."
