Can virtual worlds help combat employee isolation? IBM's experience
NPR producer-director Rachel Dretzin blogged about her recent experience working on a Frontline documentary for PBS. When she was filming at IBM offices in Westchester, New York, she was “astonished to find the huge, slick office park almost deserted . . . a byproduct of the fact that so many IBM employees telecommute from home or hotels.” Dretzin interviewed a couple of IBMers who said their virtual world meetings were “more human and intimate than videoconferencing or phone calls.” She ponders whether technology makes us farther apart or helps to bring us together.
