Featured study: Generation Y and the Workplace
Johnson Controls just released the final report of their study, Generation Y and the Workplace. Marie Puybaraud from Johnson Control's Global WorkPlace Innovation group led the research effort (called OXYGENZ) and authored the report. Many of you will recall that Marie shared preliminary results of the study with us at an earlier symposium. Among the major findings of the GenY study: Nearly all (96%) prefer an environmentally friendly workplace; over half prefer to work flexibly and chose when to work and 41% want access to team spaces at the office. New in the library: David Coleman's Presentation: Social Networks in the Enterprise: Benefit or not?
We've uploaded the slides to the webinar presentation David Coleman made to NewWow on June 3, 2010. David's talk was based on primary research done last year on how four organizations are adopting social networks. Topics included survey and interview results as well as a summary and analysis of social technology trends in the enterprise. He also talked about recent research on Twitter that can help us answer the question: "Are social networks really social?" Download your copy: http://www.newwow.net/members/node/1643
Microsoft Amsterdam follow-up
Microsoft's Doug Lowrie responded to questions from Bas Singer and Ilfryn Price about the company's MS Schiphol offices. Doug provides details about the square footage per head and expectations for it to continue to decline. He also talks about how FM services in Schiphol are more aligned with the hoteling industry than with the "Blue Chip market." IBM study: Telecommuters can handle 50% more work
A new global study of IBM staffers found that workers with flexible schedules and the option to telecommute could work 50% more before they experienced conflicts between work and home needs. Researchers at Brigham Young University surveyed over 24,000 IBM employees in 75 countries to reach the conclusion that flexible scheduling allowed workers to log 57 hours a week before experiencing a conflict between work and home life.

OPM shares preliminary telework data for 2009
Justin Johnson, deputy chief of staff at the US Office of Personnel Management, speaking during panel discussion about telework last month, said that the annual survey of federal workers on telework habits found a large number of unreported teleworkers. There was a wide discrepancy between how employees reported their teleworking behavior and how their managers reported it. http://www.newwow.net/members/node/615#comment-1064
